In the Gospel of John 1; 1 and 14 says," In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
In these two verses the spiritual meaning of the expression "Son of God" was revealed. The "Word of God" had become a man in the birth of Jesus Christ. Therefore Jesus is called "The living Word" as stated in John1; 1.
In the Gospel of Mathew 17; 5 God told about Jesus Christ, "The is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to Him".
Isaiah 7; 14 says, “The virgin will be with child and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel." (Immanuel means God with us).
John 10; 38 recorded, "The Father is in me and I in Him."
John 10; 30 says, "I and my Father are one."
There are more verses in the Holy Bible, which supports that Jesus is the Lord, Son of living God.
Rev. Hamran Ambrie in his book called "God has chosen for me everlasting life", page 20ff discussed thoroughly what Muhammad said about these verses. He wrote, "Now let’s see that Muhammad himself testified several times to the truth of this verse by saying (Hadith Anas bin Malik-Mutiaria Hadith page 353).”Jesus is truly the Spirit of God and His Word."
In sura al-Nisa 171 recorded "Truly Jesus the son of Mary, is the Ambassador of God and His Word, which He threw into Mary and (He is) a spirit of Him."
Concerning the expression "His Word" or the "Word of God" which became the body of Jesus.
Dr. Hasbullah Bakry in his book "Nbi Isa dalam Al- Quran enz" (Jesus the prophet in the Koran) page 109 says, "The prophet Jesus is called "Kalimat- Allah" (the Word of God) because He is the incarnation of the Word of God which was designated to Mary to bear the prophet Jesus."
It is clearly proved here that Jesus is "The living Word of the Almighty." We Christian never say that "God has a son" in a biological sense, as mentioned in the Koran by the term "walad" which means a biologically born son. Jesus is called "The Son of God" by the Arabic Christians in a legal sense using the word "Ibn." By this term, He is not called a biologically begotten son, as described by the term "walad" in the Koran.
Therefore, we (Christians) must say that there is no single verse in the Koran that rejects the teaching of the Bible concerning the name "Son of God" in the legal meaning of "Ibn" for Jesus Christ.
The Koran only rejects the assertion that Jesus is the Son of God with the meaning of "walad" as a son born by a sexual act between God and Mary. We Christians reject such idea too."
I like to make clear to my Muslim brothers and sisters that we never look upon Jesus Christ as a Son of God in a physical sense, but we believe He is the Son of God, coming out the divine presence, as in the description of Him being "The Word who was with God in the beginning" and who was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps you are amazed my dear friends that the Koran mentions the Trinity of the one God exactly as we Christians believe in it. We have already seen that the Trinity of Christianity is the nature of God, His Word and His Spirit.
This is the same Trinity that the Koran mentions, "But Jesus Christ, son of Mary is the messenger of God and His Word and Spirit of Him that He gave to Mary." (Sura al-Nisa 4;171). In this verse it is clear that;
God has a personality- "Messenger of God."
A Word- "And His Word." (Kalimat-Allah)
A Spirit- “Spirit from God." (Roh-Allah).
I like the argument of Fouad Accad (A Lebanese Christian) what he described in his pamphlet; "Someone asked a friend of his the following puzzling question; ‘Who do you think existed first; God, His Spirit or His Word? The friend answered immediately, 'Certainly God, as nothing could have existed before Him.' The man then said, 'If God was at any time without Spirit or Word, which means a dead or a dumb God, hence an imperfect God, how can He be God at all? The friend thought for a long time about what he had heard and then said, 'You are right my friend, God cannot be dead, without Spirit, or dumb, without Word, at any time, for in Him life and perfection are personified........God's Spirit and Word,' he added, 'were with Him from the very beginning, and will remain, without interruption, till the very end. God, I can see now, cannot be partitioned into God, Word, and Spirit. He is One God.’”
The testimony of the Koran for the creed of the Trinity is what we Christians proclaim and no more. It does not proclaim polytheism but rather it proclaims that is no God but Him. Therefore, the term Son of God does not mean procreation in human terms but rather this expression was intended to attribute or relate Christ to God and not infidelity or partnership with God! For son ship originates in the spiritual fatherhood of God. God is the Father and Christ is the Son only in a special unique meaning which does not apply to any other.
Muslims says God and His Word and His Spirit which makes three. We Christians say; The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
So believe in God, His Word and His Spirit and say not three. Always remember God is only one. Praise to His most Holy name.
